Be the beaut you want to see in the world

“Our products match the quality of global brands, but at [a] much more affordable price-point. We are super passionate about being kind to our faces and the planet, but at our core are a bunch of skincare nerds who are very picky about what we put on our faces,” says Robyn. Although she is very new to this industry, Robyn is still exploring and putting her feelers out, but is willing to give it a shot to succeed in the beauty industry!

The small beginnings (and small tasks) all matter

“I am an interior designer by profession and started at the very bottom; taking sticky labels off vases, buying flowers and dried mango for styled shoots, carting fabric books around, making sample boards… It was a long journey upwards. I did my best to earn my stripes. You have to put a smile on your face, work hard and get on with it. If you do even the most mundane of tasks well, you’ll be able to level up and move onto something more challenging. I think a good lesson I learnt is not to have a ‘I’m better than this’ attitude – that won’t get you far. Just do it and do it well,” she says.

You can’t expect anything to fall into your lap

Gender aside, Robyn says you have to forge your own career path, work hard and foster your own personal and professional growth. “Nothing beats hard work. Don’t expect things to happen for you. It’s no one else’s responsibility to make your career or venture a success but your own, so work for it,” she says.

On networking and putting yourself out there…

Robyn says research, self-learning, exploring, asking questions, studying, speaking to people and making connections are the key ingredients to ensuring one succeeds.

Be aware of and understand the personalities of the people in your team…

“If you learn to understand their innate characteristics it will give you a window into their strengths, tendencies and behaviour. I would tell my 21-year-old self to take note of where other people are coming from and try to see things from their perspective,” says Robyn.

The essence of self-care

Robyn takes time to enjoy her morning and evening skincare routine. “I exercise every day and I take thought-provoking long baths as often as I can,” she says.
